If you're a writer, you must submit. MUST. It's the only way to ever earn a satisfactory answer to that embarassing "have you published anything" question. If you get a 1-in-20 acceptance rate, you are doing phenomenal! 1-in-100 is more like it, so start with this: P&W's online database of literary magazines. It's searchable, it kicks the crap out of Writer's Market, and it's FREE. |

One helpful hint for submitting is to stay organized. I use this spreadsheet to track my submissions - it's very simple, it doesn't do anything but keep records, and I don't think I could live without it. |

On one hand, I'm really happy I earned an MFA, and I think it did me a lot of good. On the other, I know it's certainly not right for everyone. Still, if you want to know more about sucha program, you could do worse than to read over the program materials from my alma mater, UNLV. |
